Based on the SUBARU WRX STI, the TYPE RA-R complete car was released to celebrate STI's 30th anniversary. Incorporating ‘agility’, ‘speed’ and ‘pleasure’ as themes, the essential performance characteristics of cars, acceleration, steering, and braking have been enhanced as much as possible in this model. The cumulative result of reducing the weight of components at the gram level has been the body of the TYPE RA-R that is about 30kg lighter than the S208 or S207, and about 10kg lighter than the base model - the WRX STI. In addition, this model is powered by the EJ20 balanced BOXER engine with the highest power of all STI complete models which is also installed in the S208. A power-to-weight ratio that exceeded the S208 provides unprecedented speed and pleasure.
The power unit utilizes the 329HP EJ20 balanced BOXER, a performance shroud with increased rigidity to maximize the cooling effect of the intercooler, and a low back pressure muffler to increase engine output performance and response by reducing pressure loss. All this contributes to high controllability, enjoyable feel which makes you think you can rev up endlessly, and an exhaust sound which symbolizes the high performance of the car.
Around the wheels, the dampers and springs that were specially developed for the TYPE RA-R, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires which provide powerful grip in both dry and wet conditions thanks to their different compounds between the inner and outer sides of the tread, and the Brembo brake system with high-μ brake pads have been introduced. Along with increasing the vehicle's performance limit, the TYPR RA-R provides the driver with a sense of security by improving operability and braking performance.
